The Governor is naming Dr Staci Fischer as the new acting health director.
A search for a permanent department head has been going on for nearly two years.
Dr Fischer, an infectious disease specialist, will replace the retiring Dr. Utpala Bandy who has been in the post since 2022.
The Governor says no one wants the post because of its low pay scale.
He is seeking a big bump in salary to 250 thousand dollars.
