If your New Year’s weight loss resolution needs a kick start, check this out: US News & World Report has released their ranking of the top 29 diets for 2013 as chosen by a panel of health experts.
The overall winner was the DASH diet, or Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Originally intended for people with high blood pressure, DASH got high marks for being safe and nutritionally complete.
It also has been found to stave off diabetes and support heart health. The DASH eating plan emphasizes cutting back on salt while consuming lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean protein.
Other diets that landed in the top 10 include the low-fat Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes diet (or TLC), The Mayo Clinic diet, the Mediterranean diet and, a top-diets-list staple, Weight Watchers.
