RENO, Nev. (AP) - Nancy Peppin loves Twinkies. But not to eat. She's a Nevada artist who incorporates the cream-filled snack cakes in her work. She says Twinkies are the ``ultimate American food icon.''
So, when Hostess Brands announced plans to shut down, Peppin bought 12 boxes of Twinkies. She says she needs the ``art supplies.'' Peppin has created everything from a Last Supper with Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Ho Hos, to a pinup calendar with Miss Twinkie.
Peppin isn't too worried about her favorite subject disappearing for good. She's confident another company will pick up Twinkies and continue production.
