Aerosmith members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford just met with Uruguay President Jose "Pepe" Mujica as the band continues its month-long tour of South America.
The three visited Mujica at his Presidential offices in downtown Montevideo, the city which the band played. "We believe in what he stands for," explained Tyler as to why the band wanted to meet with the President.
"We believe that some of the best American Presidents who were those that fought in war themselves. President [Mujica] is a freedom fighter; in many ways, we fight for freedom ourselves – with music – it transcends all languages.
"His behavior – the way he gives 70% of his salary to the people to build homes here, in a very small country, I think he's doing it the right way – grass roots – and we believe in that."
